Jennifer Whelihan, Business Development and Communication Professional with over 15 years experience, is known for her expertise in business consulting and entrepreneurship, as well as her diverse work in new media, and public, community and government relations. Her exceptional background has led her to career positions as a television and print journalist, media director for the Florida House of Representatives, press secretary on political campaign work, communication director for a leading research facility and other non-profit organizations, certified business consultant for USF Small Business Development Center and currently an adjunct instructor at the University of Tampa and Economic Development Manager at Hillsborough County. Jennifer is a proud Seminole and received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Media Communication and Master of Arts in Interactive and New Communication Technology degrees from Florida State University. While at FSU she received the prestigious Florida State University Seminole Leadership Award. Full-time tenured business faculty member at Hillsborough Community College, and adjunct faculty at the University of Tampa. In addition to her teaching activities, Kerly serves as the co-founder of the HCC Entrepreneurship and Innovation program. She actively works in promoting and building community and business relationships for HCC and its students. Before joining HCC, Ms. Kerly founded BK Consulting, a business and marketing advisory service company. In the 1990’s, Kerly was involved in another startup, Conectiv Communications, a telecommunications service provider, where she served as the manager of innovative programs. Internally at HCC, Beth was part of an intrapreneurial venture, International Education Programming, where she was responsible for marketing. Today, this program generates over $3 million in annual revenue. From 2005-2007, she served the Southwest Florida region as Special Assistant to the Governor. In this role, Kerly was responsible for meeting with constituents, and discussing state policies and issues with local community leaders and citizens. She also reported to the Governors office on matters related to local community needs.
